what is federation?

    YOU are the Jewish Federation

     * Your values inspire us
     * Your strength empowers us
     * Your commitment is at the very heart of our community
     * Giving to others, taking responsibility and acting with loving kindness

    Federation represents your need to grow the community and its traditions for your children and your children’s children. It’s your determination to provide both immediate comfort and long-term solutions … to help heal the world, to bring dignity and opportunities where none existed before. You are the Jewish Federation.  And your generosity does a world of good.  Please make your gift to the Jewish Federation annual campaign and make a bequest in your will for future generations.

    Federal and state cutbacks are just beginning to be felt. 350,000 American Jews live below the poverty line; another 500,000 live in low-income housing. Federation dollars help provide emergency cash assistance and food programs, low-income housing.

    A million North American Jews are over 65. The Federations are building  humanitarian networks in providing a complete system of senior care. That includes services that let the elderly stay in their homes, adult day care, Meals-on-Wheels and respite care; assisted living and skilled nursing care all the way through to acute medical and end-of-life care.

    Unemployment in Israel is in double digits; new layoffs are reported nearly every month.  And it’s particularly difficult for new immigrants and Ethiopian Israelis to find work. The Federation community is working with new and existing partners to provide long-term solutions. That includes educational programs and scholarship opportunities; job training and retraining; and new business loans. We’re also working to extend the school day to free time for parents with children to take advantage of these opportunities.

    240,000 elderly Jews in the former Soviet Union turn to the Federation community to provide food, winter relief and comfort.

    36,000 Jews in Argentina receive supermarket debit cards, job retraining and/or mortgage subsidies. In Central & Eastern Europe, we’re helping to sustain Holocaust survivors and assist all Jews in reconnecting to their heritage.
